Chris Ekejime Sunday Ehigiator The Nigerian movie industry was thrown into mourning last Sunday following the death of a veteran producer, Chris Ekejimbe. Ekejimbe who passed on at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), was said to have been battling acute malaria and typhoid fever for more than two months. Founding President of the Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP), and APC candidate for the Warri Federal Constituency seat in the forthcoming House of Representatives election, Comrade Alex Eyengho, who confirmed the news of Ekejimbe’s death, said the film maker passed on about 9 am on Sunday at LUTH. According to Eyengho, the deceased was rushed to LUTH on Tuesday, when his condition became critical after he was allegedly given an overdose of malaria drug at another hospital. The Nigerian Army posted a message on its official Twitter handle notifying the public about the postponement of the “Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Nigerian Army University Biu earlier scheduled for Tuesday 30 October 2018.” It was my first time to learn that the army even had a plan of establishing a university. When I tried to Google it up, I read from the webpage of NAN that the army secured approval for the establishment of its own university in March this year. The approval was given at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo following the recommendation of the Ministry of Education. More details have emerged on the accident involving a Marcopolo bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors Limited in which 10 people died. It was learnt on Wednesday that the bus driver allegedly smoked and drank during the journey and when cautioned by passengers, he threatened to deal with them. Some of the passengers allegedly called the telephone number of Young Shall Grow to complain about the driver’s recklessness, and the company reportedly promised to address the issue. It was gathered that when the passengers called back, the phone rang out several times before it was switched off until tragedy struck. Sources reported that about 42 passengers left the South-East for Lagos in the bus with number plate, SMK 867 XG. The bus driver was said to have rammed into a stationary truck around 5.30am on Monday, killing nine persons on the spot, while the 10th victim died in a hospital.
