Ojukwu and Bianca: The secret not shared

Image
Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the former Biafran leader who died early this year, showed great love to his wife, Bianca, now an ambassador of Nigeria to Spain. Though he willed almost everything he had to her, according to the will read in Enugu High Court today, but there was a well guarded secret he never revealed to Bianca until he died 26 November 2011 after a protracted illness: his love child, a girl. Her name is Tenny Haman, a name that sounds Ghanaian. Do you know her? Ojukwu gave her Jubilee Hotel in Zaria and a share of his landed property in Nnewi. Could the location of the hotel be an indication that the girl was born by a woman from Northern Nigeria and probably resides up-North? And fittingly, Ojukwu, a man of drama, kept the secret until his last testament was unveiled posthumously. A Cry for Help

Recently, the crying baby of Nollywood who doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Nkeiru Sylvanus has been embattled. Nkiru Sylvanus herself  made efforts to explain her relationship with her boss whom she refers to as a father figure but in our own peculiar way of prejudiced denunciation, nobody seems to be paying her any attention. Instead romantic tales keep flying around her and Rochas Okorocha, all in a bid to make her a recluse. Recently,  stories of the “Cry for Help”actress’ parting ways with her boss made headlines in some national dailies and online publications. The story had it that the actress had been relieved of her appointment supposedly due to persistence of the Imo state First Lady, still purporting the existence of a romantic relationship. Obviously, being human, it was wise for Nkiru to rise to the occasion to effectively defend her name and set the records straight. But it was not surprising

Advancing macroeconomic reforms by Okonjo-Iweala

In her book, Reforming the Unreformable, the Nigerian Experience, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala provided background of the reforms in Nigeria and how she became the Finance Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo On the morning of July 17, 2003, I sat down at my desk in Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance, just after being sworn in with other ministers by President Olusegun Obasanjo as a member of the cabinet. I was overwhelmed when I reviewed the enormity of the problems confronting the country and saw the huge mountain of files already stacked for action on my desk. I wondered where to begin, and whether I had in fact been insane, as many friends and family thought, to leave my comfortable job and recent promotion to vice president at the World Bank to accept this huge challenge. I had spent the two months between the time President Obasanjo first approached me to serve in May 2003 and the swearing-in ceremony in July working intensely on analyzing the problems of the economy
